The internationally sought after Sligo Tasting Tour is slap bang on the Wild Atlantic Way. Local foodie Gary Cawley takes you on 2.5 hour tour of Sligo’s culinary treasures. We start at historical Sligo Abbey, tasting our way through the town, meeting butchers, bakers, chefs and craft brew makers to name but a few. There’s a ‘goodie’ bag too, just in case the 12 tastings become a little too much! Peppered with a pinch of theatrical endeavour, the warmth of Sligo people, and the pride and passion of our local food producers, do join us – our world’s your oyster!
We keep groups small, a maximum of 15 only. Tours are daily from Monday to Friday and you can choose from either 10.00am or 2.30pm. Book here now.
THE TOUR GUIDE
Gary is a 6th generation Sligo man who grew up in the family transport business in Sligo town and county doing business across continental Europe.
His father’s great grandmother had a bakery in High Street, Sligo during the War Years, while his grandfather hand-delivered milk after school back in the 1940s, walking the short distance to the old Sligo Gaol. The milk was proffered from a cow kept ‘out the back’ in Mail Coach Road in the centre of Sligo Town (common practise in those days). His mother’s family reared beef in Sooey, County Sligo.
Gary has a passion for the food and culture of Sligo.
“For me, what makes Sligo so special is the local producers and unique local traders – all with individual stories to tell! The food producers and traders are such great craic, and have a passion for the food they produce. Like myself, many have been in business spanning generations in Sligo Town.”
On the Sligo Tasting tour, Gary shares his love for good food as well as local knowledge and food tips.
